Technology is there. But it is not supporting the business as it should.
Information is entered more than once. Data doesn’t match. People transfer information between systems. Spreadsheets, email and manual coordination bridge the gaps.
Eventually the conclusion seems obvious: We need better systems. Maybe.
But before talking about systems, YUGA wants to understand what those systems need to do for the business.
A system problem often begins outside the system.
Which business information and objects are being handled? What information is needed, and when? Who creates and changes it? Which processes use it? Which decisions depend on it?
Only once these relationships are understood can we make a sound judgement about the role technology should play. IT follows process. Not as a dogma – but because technology gets its purpose from the business.
Then the question changes.
Not: Which system should we implement? But: How should processes, information, data and technology work together to make the business work better?
Perhaps a new solution is needed. Perhaps existing systems need to work together differently. Perhaps the decisive change lies in data structures, responsibilities or processes. And sometimes technology isn’t the biggest constraint at all.
Business first. Technology with purpose.
